Each year, Shire of Nillumbik (and other councils) awards grants to sports, arts and cultural, youth and volunteer groups that want to plan and develop new programs for people living, working or playing in the Shire, and to budding athletes who compete at state level, or above. Victoria 175 History Grants now open

2010 is the 175th anniversary of the founding of Melbourne, the first European settlement in what became the State of Victoria. The Victoria 175 History Grants provides grants of up to $12,000 to community organisations to preserve and commemorate the origins and founding stories of Victoria's many and diverse communities.

Nillumbik Reconciliation Group and Eltham Bookshop present "The Past Matters 2010" May 21 - 22 2010. The brochure says: "An exploration of contemporary indigineous writing, art and literature..this festival seeks to generate discussions on indigineous affairs..." Among the authors presenting is Ann McGrath co-author of "How to write history that people want to read", a recently added title to YPRL's collection.
