How can I become a library member?
• You can join the library at any of our eight branches and our mobile library, or you can join online by using our online membership form

Please bring with you some current form of identification like a driver's licence, rate notice or a telephone account, or anything that has both name and address details.
Membership is free and you may use your library card at any of our branch libraries or the mobile library service.


There is no minimum joining age, but if you are under 18, some form of ID from a parent/guardian as well as their signature is required .
You can download and bring the completed application form (along with your parent/guardian) to the library to join
 
How many items can I borrow?
• You may borrow up to 30 items, which may include 10 of each category of AV material.
 
How long can I have library materials?
• The loan period is 3 weeks for all items.
 
Reserving items
• If an item is out on loan or at another Yarra Plenty or Murrindindi library, you can place a hold on it and get it sent to the library of your choice.
You are allowed to have 6 items on hold at a time.
 

What if I haven't finished with my library materials?

• Items are able to be renewed twice provided they have not been requested by someone else.

  1. Items can be renewed at the library,
  2. by phone on 9408 8521
  3. or via the online catalogue
Where can I return my library items?
• You may return items at any library branch or the mobile library. Returns chutes are open 24/7, so items can be returned when the library is closed.
 
What happens if I have an overdue item?
•There are fines of 20 cents per item, per day on overdue library item
• If you have an email address registered with us, a courtesy email reminder is sent 2 days before your items become overdue. If you rely on post an overdue notice is sent 10 days after the item is due
• Library materials may not be issued if library fines exceed $15.00, or if your overdue fine has not been paid within 40 days
• For any queries regarding overdue items, please contact our Circulation Support Department on 9401 0750.
 
What if I have lost a library item/s?
• Replacement fee is the cost of the item plus GST.
• Payment for lost items can either be made at a branch library, mobile library or by contacting the Circulation Support Department on 9401 0750.
•Payment can be made by cash, cheque, eftpos or credit card
 
What happens if I have lost my library card?
• Notify your nearest library branch as soon as possible. Replacement cards are available at all libraries for $2.00.
 
Registering your email address
• By registering your email address, you will be notified of any holds available via email.
• You will get a courtesy reminder when the items on your card are about to become overdue .
• If you have already joined and not registered your email address, or if you have changed your email address you can
submit your new email to us online
 
Using the Databases and ebooks

We have a number of online database and ebooks that are accessible 24/7 to our members. Access is via the Yarra Plenty webpage. If usu=ing them outside the library you will be required to enter your library card number to gain access

 
Inter-Library Loans
• Yarra Plenty library offers an inter-library loans service for members who are not able to locate the material they require form our collection
• Members are able to place their own requests via LibrariesAustrallia.
This service is available 24/7

• Inter-library loans are available for book resources, journal articles, audio books on CD, CDs and DVDs.
They are not available for videos or cassettes due to the fragile nature of the material.

• Current material is available to inter-library loan, provided the material is not in high demand by the owning library.
For material being inter-library loaned from Yarra Plenty to another library, current material will be loaned provided it is not is high demand at Yarra Plenty

• Yarra Plenty library provides free WiFi access at Diamond Valley, Eltham, Ivanhoe Watsonia and Mill Park Libraries.
You can log in with your personal wireless emabled device using a your library card number and PIN
