The National Year of Reading - Book Droppings and Flash Mobs

Pick up a free book from Rosanna Railway Station and Rosanna Library and celebrate the launch of the National Year of Reading on Tuesday 14 February - Valentine's Day, or as it's known around here, Library Lovers Day.
Banyule Mayor, Cr Tom Melican, as well as librarians and council staff, will be giving out hundreds of books at the railway station for the Book Droppings event. Early morning train travellers at Rosanna will be able to pick up an interesting free book from the railway station for their journey from 7.00am – 9.00am, thanks to a partnership with Metro Trains. From 10.00am until 12.00noon people can collect their free books from outside the library in Turnham Avenue, and free tea and coffee inside the library.
The books will be embarking on a journey of their own. Each book is
registered with the
Bookcrossing (www.bookcrossing.com) website, which
traces the book’s journey from reader to
reader and throughout the world.
The idea is for people to read the book, post a comment on the
website
about where they found it and what they thought of it, then release it back
into the ‘wild’
for others to find.
The wide selection of books includes new books and withdrawn library
books and will also include
a contingent of romance books to mark
Valentine’s Day/Library Lovers Day.

We have a rich schedule of lively events planned for the National Year of Reading.

For a start, look out for some flash mobs in your area. Join in the fun by signing up at 52flashmobs.com. (What's a flash mob?)

In March and April you can also share book recommendations at Mill Park Library, examine vampires in fiction at Ivanhoe, and learn how to write a book at a writing workshop with award-winning author of Things We Didn't See Coming Steven Amsterdam at Eltham. Download the March April events brochure here.

Look out for more National Year of Reading updates.
