Your Library Card and Borrowing

How do I get my library account and PIN?

Your PIN is chosen by you when you join the library and must be 4 numbers only.  If you want to change your PIN, login to the catalogue and go to Account Settings.

Will the library alert me when I have an overdue item?

The library will send you an email if you’ve registered an email address. Otherwise you will receive a phone call OR a letter. Registering your email is the best way, as it is quickest and saves the library money (to spend on books and other things).

What kind of identification do I need to get a library card?

You must show staff identification with your current address on it. For example, drivers licence, rate notice or a telephone account, or anything that has both name and address details.

Can I borrow an item that YPRL doesn't own?

YPRL can attempt to locate a title that is not within our collection for you. Details of this service can be viewed here.

What is an interlibrary loan?

If Yarra Plenty does not hold an item you can request that we borrow it from another library.

What formats can I Interlibrary Loan - books, DVDs, etc?

You can borrow any format on Interlibrary Loan. However, availability is at the discretion of the lending library and some formats are more difficult to obtain.

How much does an interlibrary loan cost?

There is a service charge of $10. In addition, some lending libraries charge $13.20 per item or $18.70 for journal articles.

Where do I find the mobile libraries' schedules?

The mobile library schedule can be located here.

How do I request that my holds be delivered through the outreach service?

Contact the Outreach Service on 0418 107 724, or ask your local branch staff for assistance.

If I suggest an item for purchase, will it be placed on hold for me?

We are not able to place individual holds on suggested items. If the title you suggest is selected for purchase, you will need to check the catalogue periodically and place a hold when the item becomes available.
